THE STORY SO FAR OF OTTAWA ALTERNATIVE ROCKER, DESERT STRANGER
Formed in 2021, Desert Stranger is the solo project of Andrew Gharib, an Ottawa-based alternative rock musician, formerly of Animal Confession. With his debut album, Maybe I’m Blind (2022), Andrew channels the intensity of live performance and the focus of studio work into songs that blend cinematic soundscapes with guitar-driven energy.
Drawing inspiration from THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, RADIOHEAD, and U2, Desert Stranger moves between soaring alt-rock anthems and introspective, moody tracks, creating a sound that is both powerful and intimate.
For Andrew, Desert Stranger is a way to explore emotion and experience through music, turning introspection into songs that stick with you. With Maybe I’m Blind (2022) as just the start, he’s continuing to push the boundaries of alternative rock, crafting music that’s personal, universal, and unapologetically his own.
